Vikings vs. Buccaneers 2014 picks and predictions: Tampa Bay favored in battle of doormats

Maybe they both lose?

It’s the Minnesota Vikings vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which means NFL experts get to decide which dumpster fire looks more appealing! It’s not easy to pick between teams with a combined 3-10 record (Minnesota has two of those wins), but most panelists are going with the Bucs.

Left without their Mr. Everything, Adrian Peterson, and struggling through the rookie growing pains of Teddy Bridgewater, the Vikings’ offense has averaged just over nine points per game since hanging 41 on the Falcons in a shocking Week 4 upset. After throwing for over 300 yards and going turnover-free against Atlanta, Bridgewater has tossed five picks and hasn’t broken the 200-yard barrier in his last two starts.

The Bucs were on what constitutes a hot streak in Tampa Bay — an upset win over the Pittsburgh Steelers and an overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints — before crashing back to reality in a 48-17 loss at home against the Baltimore Ravens. But the experts have clearly liked what they’ve seen out of the Bucs over the last few weeks — at least enough to favor them over the Vikings.

Six of the eight panelists at Fox Sports and 10 of the 13 at ESPN are picking Tampa Bay. SB Nation’s pickers are a bit more torn, with four of the seven siding with the Bucs.

CBS Sports is going against the grain, with six of the eight picking Minnesota. Senior columnist Pete Prisco likes Tampa Bay, though. He’s predicting a 23-17 Bucs win, citing freshness coming out of bye week and the Vikings playing a second consecutive road game. – All Posts
