Forget rise and fire, this was more like turn and chuck.
Vanderbilt center Josh Henderson hit the oddest shot of the night Tuesday, heaving the ball a good 80 feet — from the far free-throw line to the hoop on the other end of the court — to beat the buzzer and give the Commodores a 40-35 halftime lead on the Gators in Gainsville.
“I just drew that up,” Vandy coach Kevin Stallings joked in his halftime interview with the SEC Network.
Not known for his prowess from long range, Vandy’s Josh Henderson hit just the third three-pointer of his career Wednesday night in Gainsville.
Henderson finished with five points and two rebounds in the 87-74 win. His buzzer-beater was just the third three-pointer of the 7-foot senior’s career, and his first since his freshman year with Vandy.
