Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams fired a not-so-subtle shot at Patriots coach Bill Belichick on Monday.
Williams, responding to a fan on Twitter suggesting he’d be a great fit in New England, tweeted, “From what I’m told only tom Brady likes the head coach so no thank u I’m happy where I am.”
Apparently, Belichick’s four Super Bowl rings do not hold much weight anymore.
Or maybe Williams wasn’t impressed with the Patriots rushing the ball just 14 times against the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.
Whatever the case may be, Williams is probably not going anywhere any time soon.
The 32-year-old running back is under contract with the Steelers for another year and is coming off his best season since 2009, rushing for 907 yards and 11 touchdowns on 200 carries.
Williams also rushed for a game-high 127 yards against the Patriots in a Week 1 loss.
The subject of playing for New England came up on Twitter after Williams tweeted out a photo of his release form from the Carolina Panthers in 2014.
“I am driven from within, but walking by this every morning absolutely adds fuel to the fire! #MotivationMonday,” Williams tweeted.
The Steelers and Patriots are scheduled to play each other in Pittsburgh next season.
Perhaps Williams will have another big game up his sleeve when the two meet again.
