Dexter Manley, “The Secretary of Defense,” was rather offensive on Saturday.
Manley, making an appearance as a studio analyst on CBS station WUSA, said black quarterbacks like to run because “they are probably used to running from the law.”
The comment left his co-host cringing, along with anyone else who was watching.
Dexter Manley makes a cringeworthy comment about black quarterbacks.
The former NFL defensive end’s comment is even more bizarre when you consider Manley, an African-American, was teammates in Washington with Doug Williams when he became the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.
Fortunately, Manley recognized what he said was inappropriate and apologized later in the show.
“I made a comment earlier about black quarterbacks, and I do apologize,” Manley said. “ I say things that I don’t think about sometimes.”
