Eliot Spitzer has close ties to the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance.
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance wants the investigation into allegations Eliot Spitzer assaulted a 26-year-old woman at the Plaza Hotel last weekend moved to another borough due to the former governor’s ties to his office, a spokeswoman told the Daily News on Wednesday.
Spitzer, once an ADA in the office, appointed Vance to the New York State Commission on Sentencing Reform in 2007 while he was governor. He also donated to Vance’s 2009 campaign for DA.
Several executives in Vance’s office held senior positions in Spitzer’s administration.
Svetlana Travis, 26, claims Spitzer assaulted her at the Plaza Hotel last weekend.
It’s unclear if the case will move forward after the Russian beauty who accused Spitzer of choking her returned home Sunday. She said she made up the attack. Spitzer, 56, has said there was no attack.
Spitzer resigned as governor in 2008 after it came to light that he had patronized prostitutes.
